About Parkdale
Parkdale was built as a lakeside suburb for Toronto's wealthy, and the bones still show. The side streets off Queen West are lined with oversized Victorian and Edwardian houses, many with wide porches, turrets, and stained glass, most long ago carved into rooming houses, triplexes, and rental flats. That history is exactly why buyers come. You get detached and semi-detached homes with proportions the rest of the city can't match, plus a growing stock of investor multiplexes and a handful of converted lofts and low-rise condos near the water. The neighbourhood runs from the Gardiner and the lake up to the rail corridor, split into a quieter South Parkdale and a denser north. It has never been polished, and locals like it that way.
Living in Parkdale
Queen Street West is the spine, a genuinely mixed strip of Tibetan restaurants, dive bars, galleries, vintage shops, and old lunch counters that never turned over. Little Tibet is the real thing, one of the largest Tibetan communities in North America. Streetcars run straight downtown, and Roncesvalles and High Park sit right at the western edge. The lake is close but the Gardiner and rail lines make getting to it a project, usually through the Dufferin or Jameson underpasses to the waterfront trail. It's dense, walkable, and unmistakably itself.
